Well, when I’m doing talks and chatting to clients I do get asked “Can you make me act like a chicken?”. This harks way back to old hypnotist entertainment shows (in the olden days there was Paul McKenna, chickens and hot seats and the more recent “Back in the room” show) where willing participants look like they have been “made” to act like a chicken or some such other funny/odd activity. Be assured I can’t – what I offer is therapy. What you see on the tv are people happy to be part of an act, they’ve put themselves forward and they’ve been chosen specifically because they’ll fully act and behave as asked. Their motivation may be being part of a show, having their five minutes of tv fame – whatever their individual motivation – it’s entertainment – that’s all! Ok, so hopefully that’s the chicken question addressed, below is some more information of the therapies on offer, my approach and who I work with. I offer a free initial consultation so we can chat about your issue/area of interest, then you can decide on your next step. How we can work together on your changes We work together at your pace. You are given space and time to develop and change what you want. You make your own decisions/choices about what is best for you – you know you best! You are always treated as the unique person you are, the sessions and therapy are designed for you and your choices. You can ask me anything you’d like and I’ll always do my best to answer. I don’t tell you what decisions or choices to make. During your sessions… You are always in control You will always know exactly what you’re doing/saying during and after your sessions. Only you can make the changes you want – I can’t make you! No one has any “power” over you. We work with your choices/needs/desires. You tell me what you’d like to work on. and finally … I really enjoy running my own practice and I love helping people develop themselves and make changes for themselves. For me it’s all about empowerment and change. Mentally preparing for an eye operation under local anaesthetic Life puts really difficult challenges in our way and we then have to decide how to deal with these challenges. In this case, my client decided that it would be better to remain calm as possible before and throughout the procedure and this is what we worked on together. I am regularly amazed at what the mind can help us do, given the choice, chance and helpful strategies and skills. This is certainly one of the most impressive I’ve worked with – an eye operation with local anaesthetic is no small feat to deal with. “I first met Louise when I went to Dove Cottage Hospice, near Melton Mowbray. She was starting some relaxation classes and there was a lot of interest in this. So we started learning how to relax and practised this, and to my surprise it worked. I could not believe it as I had never been able to relax very well, I had tried relaxation tapes of various sorts and it had never worked for me. Louise said if we tried to do it every day then soon we would be able to do it for ourselves, so I tried at home. It did not work to start with and then suddenly it began to work. I had told Louise I was worried about an operation I was to have on my eyes because I would be awake while they did the operation. I did not know what they were going to do but the thought of being awake while they worked on my eyes was daunting to say the least. We worked on the techniques further, enabling me become even more relaxed so that I might be able to use it while they operated and about 3 weeks later I went for the operation Louise suggested that I could say to myself that I give the surgeons permission to do the operation on me because it was to help me in the future and make me feel a lot better. I also told the surgeon what I intended to do and he had no objection; he said he had seen it work before so try it. Then the anaesthetist had a word with me and told me the worst part would be the injections they would give me all around each eye He said it would be painful but if I could get through that then it would not be too bad. Well he was right it was very painful Once that was over I tried to relax and let them get on with it well I managed to relax and started to relax even more, using the techniques I had learnt and practised. I know that what I learnt about relaxation and using it regularly helped me get through the operation. I don’t think I would have got through it otherwise. It worked for me and I hope it will work for other people Louise shared and taught me a skill I can use for the rest of my life and there was nobody more sceptical than me. “ Dental Phobia – fear of treatment, anxiety during treatment, fear of dentists Phobias can really take hold of your life – a certain something or a certain situation that really upsets you to the point that you can’t get passed it. There are many different phobias, buttons, spiders, giving talks, flying, water, birds, blood tests – the list is endless. Phobias can feel very powerful and we can feel overwhelmed by them. No phobia is viewed as silly or funny – all phobias are taken seriously and they can be worked on to rid you of unhelpful and distressing reactions. “Louise helped me address my fear of dental treatment, the whine of the drill and descaling machines filled me with dread. So, imagine my surprise when on my last visit the ‘whine‘ sounded more like birdsong; the perception of pain became the tickling of hummingbird beaks – a more than acceptable experience. I felt like smiling. I was even able to close my eyes and relax, something I thought of previously as impossible.” (The client chose which sensations and sounds they preferred to the piercing drilling sound and the physical feelings – on this occasion it was the tickling sensation of a hummingbird beak). Confidence and self belief When we have confidence and self belief if can feel like we can tackle most situations. However, when this confidence is missing or has been forgotten, it makes what would normally be routine more like climbing a mountain. The mountain in the way is the lack of self belief that we can do deal with this situation. Self belief and self confidence can be worked upon and improved upon. “I went to see Louise to help me deal with confidence issues which have affected me for as long as I can remember. My role at work has recently changed and my poor confidence would hold me back if I didn’t tackle it. We made an excellent start and there was an immediate sense of calm. Louise explained what we would be doing and made it very clear that I was in charge of how we progressed; if I wasn’t happy or comfortable with anything it was entirely my call to change it. After an in-depth discussion about me and my feelings and what I wanted to work on. Louise then proceeded to help me visualise situations and circumstances, she also gave me useful techniques to help me cope with what was becoming and embarrassing hindrance. Since receiving Louise’s help I have been able to face and deal with situations that previously filled me with terror. It has had such a positive impact my only regret is not doing something sooner, but when confidence is the issue the first step is enormous. I have also worked with Louise on relaxation, the process sounds so simple but I assure you it is also very effective.” Of course there’s a large physical element to playing sport, at whatever level. However, there’s a part that can really mess up your game – your mind. You may well be the best runner, swimmer, batter, bowler, rugby player, penalty kicker, cyclist, golfer, Iron Man competitor, horse rider or Tri-athlete ever, but if you mind decides otherwise then you’ve got problems. Many athletes and sports people have used sports mind coaching to help them. Louise has worked with sports people in the following areas: Golf – yips, confidence and putting Triathlete – Panic attacks Iron Man Competitor – could get too competitive and would injure themselves Horse-rider – confidence at riding and choosing next horse to buy Rugby – regain confidence (lost confidence after injury) Cyclist – Confidence for teenage team cyclist aiming for Olympic team Cyclist – mountain biker who would either take too many chances want to keep too safe The client below had been having trouble with consistency and putting (aka yips). “I worked with Louise of Vale Hypnotherapy to give my golf game more consistency and improve my putting, using mind coaching and clinical hypnotherapy techniques. This was done over 2 sessions. During the sessions I felt relaxed and in control at all times. I found Louise to be friendly, approachable and highly professional. I am delighted with the results and my confidence in my game has been restored. A fellow golfer recommended Louise to me and I am happy to recommend Louise and mind coaching/clinical hypnotherapy.” Work Life Balance Life can get a bit out of kilter, out of balance, between enjoying life and it being difficult. This can also include having too much work and not enough outside work activity, of course some situations require this, but on a long term basis this can be unhelpful and unhealthy. Working out what you’d like and need it s a great start, then moving on with confidence to make those changes that you’ve decided are good for you “I have worked with Louise to help me balance my life – demanding job, associated health issues and no time to live.
